Salomon Smith Barney E-mail Capabilities

We are pleased to announce that Salomon Smith Barney clients and Registered Guests* are now able to receive e-mail replies from Financial Consultants and Branch Managers through our site.

To notify you that you have new e-mail in your Inbox, we will display an orange New Mail icon on your Portfolio Summary, Positions, Activity and Watch List pages. If you do not have new e-mail, we will display a blue Inbox icon on these pages. Both icons serve as a shortcut to your E-mail Inbox.

This e-mail page serves both Smith Barney clients and guests of our site. Clients may visit their E-mail Inbox, Outbox, or compose a new message to their Financial Consultant, Branch Manager or Help Desk.

Guests do not receive an E-mail Inbox or Outbox, but they may compose messages to the Help Desk through the Internet or visit the Smith Barney branch and seminar locator.

The E-mail Inbox page displays the e-mail messages that you have received from your Financial Consultant or Branch Manager. Unread messages appear in bold. To read a message, simply click on the subject line and the message will appear.

The E-mail Outbox displays the e-mail messages that you have sent to your Financial Consultant or the Branch Manager. Unread messages appear in bold.

Changing the number of messages per screen

Initially, your Inbox displays up to 10 messages per screen. You may display more or fewer messages by editing the number in the box next to "Messages per Screen" and hitting "Enter." Click on the "Next" tab to view the next page of e-mail. You may return to the prior page by clicking on the "Previous" tab that will appear on the next screen. An absence of these tabs simply means that you do not have any further screens of messages to review.

Sorting messages

You may choose how you wish to view the messages in your e-mail boxes through the blue tabs named "Sort Sender," "Sort Subject" and "Sort Date." Please note that your Inbox displays a checkmark next to "Unread Messages on Top." This means that your preferences are set to sort and display unread messages above already-reviewed messages.

If you wish to sort or display all messages, both read and unread, by sender, subject or date, remember to reverse the selection by clicking in the checkbox next to "Unread Mail on Top."

Reviewing an e-mail

From your Inbox, you may review an e-mail by clicking on the subject line. Both the reply text and the text of your earlier e-mail will appear for your review. Clicking the "Inbox" tab will leave the message undeleted and will return you to your Inbox page. The message that you have just reviewed will no longer appear in bold and will display a checkbox next to it, allowing you to delete the message later directly from your Inbox. Use the same procedures to review e-mail in your outbox.

Composing a reply

After you have reviewed an e-mail in your Inbox, you may compose a reply by clicking on the "Reply" tab displayed above the text. Simply compose your message in the text box and click "Send Message" to send your reply. Please note that you must adhere to the guidelines of acceptable e-mail use displayed in red below the text box.

Composing a new message

Clicking on the "Compose" tab anywhere within the e-mail section will allow you to compose a message. Select the recipient you wish to contact (Financial Consultant, Branch Manager, Help Desk) from the drop-down menu, enter a subject in the Subject field, and compose your message in the text box. You must then click "Send Message" to send your reply. IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE E-MAIL TO GIVE SMITH BARNEY ANY INSTRUCTIONS AFFECTING YOUR ACCOUNT(S) OR ANY LINKED ACCOUNTS, INCLUDING PLACING ORDERS TO PURCHASE OR SELL A SECURITY OR TO TRANSFER FUNDS. DO NOT USE E-MAIL TO SEND PERSONAL CREDIT INFORMATION (INCLUDING CREDIT CARD NUMBERS), TO CHANGE YOUR ADDRESS, TO CONFIRM OR CHANGE YOUR USER NAME OR PASSWORD, OR TO GIVE SMITH BARNEY ANY OTHER TIME-SENSITIVE INSTRUCTIONS.

Deleting a message

You may delete a message that appears in your Inbox only after you have reviewed it. Click on the Subject line to open the message and review your e-mail. You may then delete the message immediately by clicking on the "Delete" tab that appears above the message text. If you do not wish to delete the message at this time, you may delete it later directly from your Inbox. Outbound e-mail can be deleted directly from the Outbox.

Reviewed messages will appear in your box in normal (not bold) text, and will display a checkbox next to them allowing you to select the messages and then click "Delete."

*This feature is only available to registered guests who have entered their 6-digit referral code during registration.
