What is accrued interest, and where can I find accrued interest in my portfolio account views?

Accrued Interest is the interest that accumulates on bank deposits and Fixed Income securities/instruments between one interest payment and the next. On smithbarney.com, accrued interest is dynamically displayed in Portfolio views based on an individual holding level, or as a subtotal value.

Why does my portfolio have a different value in Recent Market Prices vs. Last Daily Update?

Recent Market Prices show 20-minute delayed prices; Last Daily Update is the price at market closing. In addition, the Recent Market Prices view includes position updates that have taken place intraday.

Are the quotes on my portfolio in real-time?

Real-time quotes are accessible throughout the Online Trading section of the site. The Trading dropdown menu displays all of the sections accessible within Online Trading. Positions in your portfolio view are updated with a 20-minute delay (Note: to receive real-time quotes you must be enrolled for Online Trading).

How can I access real-time quotes?

Real-time quotes are accessible on the trading pages. By rolling your mouse over the Trading dropdown menu and selecting Equities, you will bring up the trading screens. Enter the stock symbol in the field labeled Stock Symbol and click Get Quote. Your stock quote will be listed in real-time.

Can I select to view only specific positions?

Yes. From the Positions- Recent Market Prices or Positions-Last Daily Update, you can sort the specific security type you would like to see by selecting the Sort Current View dropdown.

How do I nickname accounts?

It is often difficult to remember an account by the account number; therefore, you can now distinguish between multiple accounts. Select User Settings located under the My Access dropdown menu, choose the Nicknames tab, enter your nicknames, and then Submit.

Can I allow a Sub-User to view specific portions of my portfolio?

Learn about the Sub-User feature. To grant your Sub-Users restricted viewing rights, please click on Customize from any Portfolio page and select Sub-User. You will need to enter a User Name and Password for the Sub-User and enter the accounts you would like the Sub-User to view. Logging on with this User Name will provide them only with the information you authorized.

The Sub-User feature allows you to provide an interested party online account viewing capabilities. Parents—provide your child with the capability to view their custodian account. Employers—provide your employees with the capability to view their employee plans. To create a Sub-User, from the My Access dropdown menu, select User Settings.

How do I group accounts by account type into segregated portfolios for online viewing?

From the My Access dropdown menu, select User Settings, choose Account Group and then Creation. Pick a name that will easily identify your account group. Select the accounts you want visible in the account creation and select Create.

Also, from any Portfolio screen, you can select the Create Group option from the Account Selection dropdown menu, and follow the instructions provided.

What is the benefit of the Account Group feature?

Account Group allows you to view several of your accounts as a group, rather than one account at a time or all accounts at once. Any group you create will be added to your account dropdown menu for future viewing. Some clients choose this feature to segregate retirement accounts, managed accounts or custodial accounts.

How can I print my Portfolio pages?

There is a Print link available on the top right corner of each Portfolio page. This link enables you to print the current Portfolio view. If this page is too wide for the printer, change the page layout to landscape.

What is the Set as Default link?

Set as Default allows you to choose a specific view to appear when you first log on and go to Portfolio on the web site. Select the page to be set as default and click on View to go to that page. Then click on Set as Default (with*).

In the dropdown menu, only screens with an * next to them can be set as the default. If you make your choice and do not click on View, the screen you are currently on will be set as the default.

What is the Account Download feature?

Download enables you to capture your positions and activity into a spreadsheet, such as Microsoft Excel. You may then arrange and store your information in the way that works best for you.

This service gives clients the ability to download the following:

  • Account Summary
  • Activity Detail
  • Gain/Loss (Unrealized) Positions (Summary View)
  • Gain/Loss (Unrealized) Positions (Expanded View)
  • Positions
  • Gain/Loss (Realized) Positions

Can I filter out my activity by specific activity types?

Yes, you can do this by following this process: Select Activity Detail from the dropdown under Portfolio. From the dropdown, in the middle of your screen, choose the type of activity you would like to view. You may also choose a specific timeframe within which to view that activity type. You may also go to Activity Summary from there and select Summary Description for the activity type you would like to view.

How can I view Gain/Loss on my portfolio?

You can view your total Unrealized and Realized Gain/Loss on the Gain/Loss Account Summary screen. You can also view your Gain/Loss for each position on the Gain/Loss (Unrealized) Positions and Gain/Loss Realized Positions screens. In addition, you can view your Unrealized Gain/Loss for multiple lots of a single position by clicking the +/- icons on the Unrealized Gain/Loss screen.

What is Unrealized Gain/Loss?

An unrealized gain is a gain on a security that you own and have not yet sold. You will not be taxed on this gain until the security is sold. Unrealized loss is a loss on a position that has not been sold.

Is there a way to have my confirms delivered electronically?

Yes. With E-Delivery, you can have your statements, confirms and prospectuses delivered electronically. To enroll, under the My Access dropdown menu, select E-Delivery and follow the sign up instructions. You can choose to receive statements, confirmations and prospectuses for some or all of your accounts. When a document is available you will receive an e-mail notification from Smith Barney with a link to Access. Once you log on, you will automatically go to the page to view the information. Once enrolled, you will no longer receive these paper documents by mail. In the event that your Social Security Number does not appear on your account, please complete the paper application on this site and return it to your Financial Advisor. Your documents are filed and stored electronically with similar documents so you can view or print them. You are able to modify your enrollment at any time online.

Yes. Select the box for Performance Monitors when signing up for E-Delivery. If this option does not appear as one of your choices of services, please contact your Financial Advisor to enable this option.

How do I know if my trade has been executed and at what price?

Orders are updated real-time on Order Status within the Online Trading section and your Positions view is updated throughout the day. You also receive a trade confirmation by mail or E-Delivery if you are enrolled for the service.

What is my Available Cash?

Your Available Cash value is displayed at all times on the Portfolio Summary page. Available cash refers to the sum of your cash, Bank Deposit Program and money fund balances minus uncleared funds, and funds reserved for approved FMA card transactions. This value may fluctuate daily.

What are Non Gain/Loss positions?

The total of your Non Gain/Loss positions is displayed at the bottom of the Unrealized Gain/Loss Positions page. It consists of any of the following positions held in your account which do not display a gain or loss: Money Funds, Annuities, IDA, ESP Restricted, Insured Bank Deposits, Insurance, Bank Deposits and Alternative Investments.
