Guided Portfolio Management
Investment Process
The GPM program provides investors with a disciplined and diversified approach to portfolio management. Working closely with you, your specially trained portfolio manager will design your portfolio to specifically match your objectives and tolerance for risk.
Step 1. Defining Your Needs Setting Your Objectives
Prior to investing, your portfolio manager will conduct a comprehensive evaluation focused on establishing your objectives and your tolerance for risk. After all, your objectives provide the blueprint for your portfolio manager. Some of the questions you may want to ask yourself are:
- What am I going to use this money for?
- How much risk am I willing to take?
- When do I need this money?
Step 2. Constructing Your Investment Portfolio
Your portfolio will be constructed specifically for you based on your objectives and the classic investment tenets of asset allocation and diversification. Asset allocation and diversification are meant to provide you with the optimal mix of investments and to reduce portfolio volatility while achieving your long-term financial resources. Asset allocation and diversification call for your portfolio to be distributed among the various asset classes and economic sectors. Additionally, your portfolio manager will extensively use the resources of Smith Barney Citigroup's Equity Research Department to select the securities for your portfolio.
Your portfolio manager will invest in the type of investments that meet your needs with a goal to provide the return you would like to achieve within the appropriate time frame.
Step 3. Monitoring the Performance of Your Portfolio
It is more important than ever to continuously monitor your portfolio. Volatility is at historic highs and market conditions can change on a moment's notice. Your GPM portfolio manager will continuously monitor your portfolio to ensure that it stays on track with your stated objectives.
